"The UK has been playing an active role in the E3+3 Geneva talks on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and wants to see Iran living peacefully alongside its neighbours, playing an active role in regional stability. However, concerns remain about Iran’s human rights record, use of the death penalty, and freedom of expression. A compromise text has been agreed which makes closer relations with the Iranian Government conditional on issues such as human rights and compliance with international nuclear agreements. The change of leadership in Tehran has presented the UK with an opportunity to re-establish more cordial relations with Iran than have existed for many years. However, those voicing concerns over the impact of sanctions on ordinary Iranian people, and those arguing that there are still long-term concerns over human rights cannot be ignored."@en1
