"I voted to support the end of roaming charges in the European Union by the end of 2015. Irish consumers, wherever they are in the European Union, will pay the same rate for phone calls, texts and Internet data on their mobile phones as they would at home in Ireland. The end of roaming charges in the European Union is a welcome victory for Irish people holidaying or working in other Member States. No longer will consumers be fearful of calling home when they are travelling in Europe. Nightmare scenarios of arriving home to exorbitantly large phone bills for minimal phone usage should cease to happen. The new measures will apply to phone calls, texts and Internet data on mobile phones. The end of roaming charges along with other telecommunications measures approved today heralds a revamp of the telecoms landscape in the European Union to make it more consumer-friendly and more competitive. I also voted for provisions in this report which support net neutrality and get rid of loopholes which undermine the principle of open Internet."@en1
