"Madam President, we have heard explained the failure of Troika policies and of those governments that have implemented them. This includes the failure of British austerity policies in the North of Ireland.
To focus on my amendments about giving the Irish people a fairer deal: Amendments[nbsp ]8 and 27 seek the implementation of what the Taoiseach called a ‘seismic shift’ agreed at the June[nbsp ]2012 Eurogroup meeting – the retrospective recapitalisation of Irish banks. There has been much prevarication on this, and it is time that the European Parliament stated where it stands, because taking note is not good enough.
Amendment[nbsp ]25 asks for Jean-Claude Trichet’s letter of November[nbsp ]2012 to the Irish Finance Minister to be published. This is believed to have threatened the withdrawal of emergency liquidity assistance from Ireland if Ireland refused to accept the bail-out, which included a ban on ‘burning the bondholders’. The European Central Bank last week refused once again to release this letter, despite a request from the European Ombudsman’s Office to do so."@en1
