"Mr President, launched in 2002, the Single European Sky initiative has been very slow to take shape. But of course, job creation in the industry, a reduction in fuel burned by aircraft and an environment conducive to more competitive ticket prices are all touted as potential benefits if it were really to come to full fruition. It is, therefore, disappointing that the Commission’s original proposals seem to have taken a wrong turn.
Despite all my reservations, however, my overriding concern with this report lies with the discriminatory elements it contains against Gibraltar. As a previous representative for Gibraltar many years ago, I continue to follow developments closely in the territory, and I am disappointed that the Committee on Transport and Tourism of this Parliament has allowed such amendments to pass. All provisions of the Single European Sky must apply to Gibraltar and all its citizens, and any attempt at exclusion is totally unacceptable to the UK Conservative delegation."@en1
