"Having heard the Council and Commission, can I just make a very brief observation? Mr Kourkoulas, in your remarks I think I heard you make some adverse comment about activities on the other side of ‘the Channel’. I think you meant to say on the other side of ‘the Atlantic’. One might refer to the United Kingdom and the other to the United States: close allies but not always identical in this regard. Perhaps you would like to check the record and have your staff adjust it if I am right. The United Kingdom is, of course, subject to the Treaty of Rome and its successor Treaties, like it or not.
