"I was unable to support the Parliament’s resolution on the future of Europe’s horticulture sector – strategies for growth. The horticulture sector accounts for almost one fifth of Europe’s agricultural production and is worth over EUR[nbsp ]50 billion annually. The horticulture sector is particularly important in north County Dublin in terms of economic activity and employment. I regret that the resolution retained articles promoting genetic modification as well as questioning the ban on neonicotinoid insecticides in this sector. For these reasons I was unable to support this particular resolution, though I do acknowledge that it makes a number of other positive recommendations, particularly in relation to promoting employment in this sector."@en1
