"The ECR Group is wholly committed to preserving and fostering a society where boys and girls, women and men enjoy equality of opportunity and equal treatment. Within the Zuber report, we particularly welcome a focus on combating violence against women and girls. We believe strongly in the principle of equal pay for equal work and we want to see equality of opportunity in areas of employment which have been traditionally dominated by men: business and enterprise, politics, science and technology. The ECR Group is however unable to support the Zuber report today. The report covers a range of issues, some of which are important, while others raise questions concerning the principle of subsidiarity. The ECR Group believes that employment law – including wage levels, employment contracts, gender quotas and maternity, paternity and parental leave, family law, healthcare, education and school textbooks, housing and pension rights – is the clear responsibility of the Member State and not the EU. We also oppose generalisations about the economic crisis. It is wrong to suggest that women are the only gender which has been affected by the crisis across Europe. Men have lost their jobs and are struggling, financially, too."@en1
