"In my constituency, Northern Ireland, the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) already upholds high safety standards through vehicle testing, inspections and registration, and spot checks are, of course, central to this. These changes would make some tractors with a maximum speed of over 40 km/h eligible for roadside inspections. In my own constituency, Northern Ireland, this would place additional operational burdens upon farmers, who presently maintain their machinery to high roadworthiness standards. I am therefore pleased that this text clarifies that only those tractors of this type used in commercial haulage purposes will be subject to inspections. I am also pleased that light trailers, including caravans, will not now come under the scope of inspections. This would have simply added further inconvenience to this low-cost and enjoyable hobby, in addition to the need to pass an MOT test. This type of overregulation would have been totally unacceptable."@en1
