"At a time when instances of human trafficking are soaring across Europe, and millions of women and girls continue to be sold into a life of sexual exploitation, I fully support the focus of this Report. The Nordic Model of regulation has had proven results. By criminalising paying for sex, these countries have accepted that because prostitution breeds an undercurrent of trafficking, organised crime and sexual abuse, it should be cut off at the very roots. In my own constituency, Northern Ireland, my party colleague Lord Morrow has been leading the way on this issue. His Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation Bill would criminalise the purchase of sex, tackling demand for trafficking. It would also put in place mechanisms to better support victims and prosecute offenders. These measures are vital to enact social justice to my own society, and I would encourage Parliament to follow this direction and end all perceptions of women as commodities that can be bought and sold."@en1
