"Sarah, you spoke about the excessive length of pre-trial detention and I would agree with you: that is to be avoided. But would you agree that one of the reasons for this is because, when people are extradited to Britain, the police must be case-ready. They have to have a case fully prepared to go to trial before they can extradite somebody. Whereas under some continental systems investigative judges may hold people while they investigate, which results in sometimes weeks, months or years of them being detained. Would you agree with me that every police force in the European Union should be case-ready before they request somebody’s judicial surrender?"@en1
