"I followed this proposal closely and was pleased to vote in favour of the final report today, which sets out the EU’s Health Programme for 2014-2020. The programme is intended to complement, support and add value to the policies of the Member States in improving the health of EU citizens, reducing health inequalities and dealing with the economic and demographic challenges facing healthcare systems. Past programmes have helped to fund important projects, including cervical cancer screening, HIV prevention and research into neurodegenerative disease. I am also pleased that a number of new areas have been taken into account in this programme, including mental health, health inequalities, environmental and lifestyle factors and gender and age-related illnesses. With a budget of EUR[nbsp ]449.4 million, the Health Programme can be instrumental in helping to improve the health of EU citizens."@en1
