lpv:spoken text	"It is important that EU agriculture continues to invest in research and innovation within the plant breeding sector. The EU has over recent years stalled in its progress both in preserving the diverse plant species which we have but also moving forward in creating new and improved species through traditional techniques or by adopting new technology. Of course any progress on this front must be carried out in a way which is scientifically proven; in a way that does not affect what is currently available and adds value to the agriculture sector. I fear that if we do not embrace such technology the EU will be left behind and our farmers will be left at an even greater competitive disadvantage than is currently the case. And to add to the irony of the situation, we in the EU will import food produced through the use of such technologies for EU consumers."@en1
