"This report puts in place the legislation needed to apply the Fund for European Aid for the Most Deprived. With a budget of EUR[nbsp ]3.5 billion, the Fund will be used to provide food, clothes and other assistance to those who are suffering the most under austerity and the cost-of-living crisis. In the EU, 125[nbsp ]million people are at risk of poverty and social exclusion and more than half a million people in the UK turned to food banks in the last year alone. Labour MEPs therefore fully support the report and would like to see the Fund used to ensure that food, money and support get to those most in need. We were disappointed that Tory MEPs once again voted against the report and that the UK Government will not be claiming for ‘material assistanceʼ, effectively preventing Britainʼs food banks from accessing GBP[nbsp ]3 million in aid."@en1
