"Although I was very pleased by Parliament’s endorsement of three legally binding targets – on energy efficiency, the renewable share in energy consumption, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions – there are aspects of this report that I disagree with, particularly the references to nuclear energy and to carbon capture and storage as possible means of decarbonising the economy. However, I was pleased that the report also calls for shale-gas exploration and extraction to be subject to environmental impact assessment (EIA), and for data transparency in relation to chemicals used in the fracking process. In the light of the unambitious Climate and Energy 2030 Framework announced by the Commission on 22 January 2014, I voted in favour of this report."@en1
