"I welcome this own initiative report calling for better protection for undocumented women migrants. Many of these women are vulnerable and are often experience sexual violence, exploitation, forced labour and restricted access to healthcare. The report calls on the European Commission and Member States to recognise the vulnerability of this group in society, who can be the victims of trafficking and severe discrimination. Undocumented women are subject to physical abuse and because of their legal status they are unable to seek help from the police, hospitals or shelters. This means that their exploitation continues and leads to dire situations where women are abused by dangerous landlords who abuse them in exchange for providing them with a home. I support calls to strengthen the protection of fundamental rights for undocumented migrants and, finally, I agree that alternatives to severe detention centres need to be found to avoid physical abuse of female detainees."@en1
