"Madam President, this report poses more questions than it answers. When researching the issue of undocumented migrants, I found this definition: ‘An undocumented migrant is a person without a residence permit authorising them to regularly or legitimately stay in the country of their destination.’ On the basis of this definition, I have a number of concerns about the Nicolai report. If the EU gives incentives and provides rewards to illegal immigrants, such as healthcare, education, training, housing and employment, we are indirectly and irresponsibly supporting a system of illegal immigration which is unsafe and which leaves women vulnerable to being exploited. What message are we sending to those third-country nationals who play by the rules and enter our Member States legitimately? We are telling them that it does not matter whether one enters Europe via legal or illegal channels, as one will have the same rights and entitlements. For these reasons I cannot support the report."@en1
