"Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair commercial practices is the European Union’s main legislative tool for regulating misleading business-to-business relations. I voted in favour of this INI report, because I want to ensure that consumers in Europe are not misled or exposed to aggressive marketing. I believe that any claim made by traders in the EU should be clear, accurate and substantiated, thus enabling consumers to make informed and meaningful choices. I am pleased to see calls for increased scrutiny on the standards of cross-border online purchasing, especially with price comparison websites and online advertising which targets vulnerable groups, particularly children. I hope this report will be a step towards greater consumer protection throughout the EU and a better standard of both offline and online commercial practice."@en1
