"I voted against this report. Although I support the objective that European legislation should be simple and effective without creating an unnecessary regulatory burden, this report challenges many social and environmental measures that Labour MEPs have consistently supported. The report calls for the implementation of Commission programmes which target many key areas of legislation such as the Working Time Directive, the Temporary and Agency Workers Directive and health and safety legislation. Workers’ rights cannot be viewed as a regulatory burden, and simplifying EU law should not come at the expense of rules that provide important environmental and social protection."@en1
