"Mr President, I want to register my protest. These are supposed to be urgency debates. The tragic kidnapping of Mr Somphone has been debated in this Chamber before. The repression of textile workers in Cambodia is not something that we should ignore, but let us have a sense of perspective here: we had seven hostages kidnapped during the massacre in Camp Ashraf on 1 September 2013 – six of them women. They are still missing. What are we doing about them?
We have a looming civil war in Iraq, the bloodbath in Syria, the refugee crisis and assassinations and bomb attacks going on daily in Lebanon and in Beirut. What are we doing about these? Why are we having this as an urgency debate? Let us keep a sense of proportion."@en1
