"One of the most important achievements of the European Union has been the right to freedom of movement. Today I voted for the resolution on respect for the fundamental right of free movement on the EU because I believe that the right to settle, look for work throughout the EU and travel freely within Europe has greatly benefited the people of Britain. I believe that we should be proud of these rights and do our best to protect them within the Union. I also believe that, in order to keep these rights from being abused, we need to acknowledge the crucial role of trade unions in enforcing these basic rights and opposing the ‘race to the bottom’ in terms of wages and conditions. I believe that this will lead to a strengthening of both the quality of life of EU citizens and of our economy as a whole."@en1
