"I do not believe that there are compelling reasons to justify opposing the Council decision to authorise the commercial planting, throughout the EU, of a type of GM insect-resistant maize called ‘1507’. The EU risk assessment process for GM crops and foods is one of the strictest in the world. I have confidence in the robustness of the EU’s risk assessment processes and therefore believe that we should be able to provide fair and predictable market access for those products which have been approved. As someone with a background in science and who believes strongly in the necessity of science-based decision making on GM crops and foods, I could not vote in favour of this resolution."@en1
