"Today, Labour MEPs voted in favour of amendments which sought to give consumers the right to know whether the honey they are buying is made from bees feeding on GM crops. We recognise that this is a complex issue, balancing consumer rights and practical issues for bee keepers. That is why we agree with beekeepers that there should be no automatic ingredients list on honey. Only honey produced near to GM crops would have to be labelled. We also supported a specific amendment to clarify that where buffer zones exist between GM crops and hives, as they do voluntarily in the UK, there is no need to carry out any additional tests on the honey or change labels in any way. Despite the fact that some of the amendments mentioned above were rejected, we nevertheless supported the final report in the interest of allowing further discussion on this complex issue to take place between ministers, MEPs and the Commission."@en1
