"I welcome this report and the need for a strengthening of the supply chain in order to win back confidence lost as a result of unscrupulous actions taken by those wanting to make additional profit at any cost. There should, however, also be a focus on enforcement of the current rules across all Member States. There is a responsibility incumbent on all the actors within the supply chain, including retailers, to ensure that the end product is what it says it is. It is also important to have a realistic approach to the cost of food production. Making supply chains shorter and promoting buying local produce is extremely welcome but should not be used as a tool to restrict choice or discriminate against products from other Member States. In Northern Ireland we have seen the impact of the National Dairy Council, which has effectively excluded milk from Northern Ireland being sold in the Republic of Ireland. This is unacceptable."@en1
