"Madam President, I would like to thank the rapporteur and the Commission for their statements. I want to make two particular comments.
Perhaps the Commissioner might elaborate, in his concluding remarks, on the food supply chain. I have taken a great interest in this. I am not entirely sure that CAP reform will fundamentally change a key issue of concern that I have, and which is shared by others: an unfair food supply chain with a concentration of power at one end, in the retail sector, and a disparate number of producers at the other end.
We have a voluntary code of conduct that has been agreed, and I compliment the Commission on its work in this regard. I would like to ask the Commissioner if there is any decision likely to be taken soon as to whether legislation may be needed to make certain the voluntary code of conduct.
I would also say that, in the energy sector, where we want a market in energy, there are concerns in Member States about proposals for export of energy – in my country specifically wind energy. This is causing concern among citizens, which may detract from our overall objective of a single market.
I would like your response on the food supply chain."@en1
