"It has been estimated that the additional annual costs of having Parliament spread between Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg is between EUR 156 million and EUR 204 million. In a time when all Member States have had to tighten their belts and make smarter budgetary choices, I consider this expenditure to be an unnecessary waste of taxpayer money, and this is why I have voted in favour of the report on the location of the seats of the European Union’s institutions. I believe that the Parliament should have the power to decide its own location, and to use this power to have a single seat in Brussels. Parliament’s role has changed since the seat was assigned to Strasbourg, and it is increasingly unacceptable for national governments to continue with two seats against the wishes of European voters. I hope that this report will be a first step towards one seat, which will make parliament more efficient and environmentally friendly."@en1
