"Madam President, yesterday we voted on the budget of the European Parliament for the next seven years, and we voted for a budget cut. Now we have to decide how that money is to be spent – and it has to be better spent. Our monthly trip between these two parliaments is not just a waste of time and energy, but it is a waste of money. It is GBP 928 million – just think what we could do with that money. The vast majority of Members of this House have voted to stop the two seats. To the 121 Members who voted to keep it, I would say think of the schools you could have and think of the hospitals, the doctors and the teachers. Examine your hearts. You are letting down the people you represent when you are prepared to be an iconic waste of money. President Hollande, Chancellor Merkel, please listen to your people and stop wasting their money."@en1
