"I voted in favour of the legislative resolution on the European Regional Development Fund and the ‘investment for growth and jobs’ goal for a number of reasons. In the first instance investment for growth and jobs is extremely important especially in the current economic climate. In addition objectives for energy efficiency, renewable energy and low-carbon economy were included, including an increased minimum share allocated to low-carbon economy. However some aspects of the report I am less supportive of, including funding support for large enterprises which I oppose. EU funding should specifically target small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who need it the most. In addition the support available for airport infrastructure has been limited albeit to environmental protection measures only. I would have preferred broader support to such infrastructure especially in the context of Ireland being an island. Despite some misgivings and considering the importance and positive aspects of ERDF investment in growth and jobs, I decided to vote in favour."@en1
