"Today I voted in favour of the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the European Social Fund. I did so because I believe that European Social Funds must play a fundamental role in meeting the social and employment objectives of Europe 2020. Currently, there are around 23 million people unemployed in Europe, with a further 30 million under serious threat from social exclusion. As the EU’s principle instrument for employment promotion, I believe that in supporting this report myself and my colleagues are making moves towards a more socially inclusive EU, with higher levels of employment and education. I hope that this report will be implemented swiftly, as there are many key projects in Wales and the UK as a whole that are waiting to receive their funding."@en1
