"I was happy to support the Erasmus+ proposal due to begin in January 2014. The regulation streamlines important existing EU programmes for education, training and youth and I welcome the inclusion of sport for the first time within the regulation. Youth unemployment is one of the biggest challenges currently facing the European Union and the Erasmus+ programme will be vital in combating this endemic problem. The opportunity to participate in higher education, vocational education and training, to obtain student grants and loans, to participate in youth exchanges and volunteering and benefit from partnerships between educational institutions, youth organisations and businesses will foster entrepreneurship and an exchange of best practices and will encourage young people’s participation in the labour market bridging the current skills gap in Europe. The experience of travelling and meeting peers from across Europe will also foster social cohesion and youth participation in the European project. By investing in youth education and employment through Erasmus+ we are investing in Europe’s future."@en1
