"I voted against the MFF budget 2013-2020 because the cuts mean cuts in the funding coming to Wales. As an MEP representing Wales I could not support that. I have opposed the EU austerity measures and the cuts in public spending which hit the poorest hardest. In this time of economic crisis we should be investing more in creating jobs, not making more cuts. Wales is a net beneficiary of EU membership. Research I carried out last year shows that we get GBP 40 per person per year more in Wales than we contribute to EU membership. We get this support not because we are poor but because we are impoverished by UK government policies. Until Wales has its own independent voice in Europe, we need that support and solidarity to build our economy and enable us to stand on our own two feet, as other nations have done successfully."@en1
