"Mr President, I too welcome the debate this morning and in particular – hopefully – the imminent acceptance of the Multiannual Financial Framework because, firstly, this will bring certainty to the European Union and the projects that are waiting to get off the ground based on the report on the MFF. I think it also proves that, despite all the wrangling, at the end of the day we can get a successful outcome, and that is important. I would especially like to thank also the negotiators on behalf of Parliament who did a tremendous job, in very difficult circumstances, to ensure that we got the best possible outcome. Looking forward, it is important that we work really hard at getting own resources for the European project. I do not accept that this is a grab for power by Parliament or anything of that kind. I think it will make things much easier and much more balanced in the future and that we will have less wrangling. Well done to the Commissioner and all the negotiators. Hopefully we will have an outstandingly positive result in the vote."@en1
