I did so because I believe that we as a Union need to safeguard the personal data and privacy rights of EU citizens. I agree that the current procedure for exercising the right of access may not be adequate in protecting these rights, as in practice it is not always possible to exercise the right to rectification, erasure and blocking. I am pleased to see that the Commission has acknowledged the long-term ambition of the EU to establish a system which allows the extraction of data to take place on EU soil."@en1
