"The ‘European Semester’ is a cycle of economic and fiscal policy coordination within the EU. During the European Semester the Member States align their budgetary and economic policies with the objectives and rules agreed at the EU level. I voted in favour of the European Semester report, because it states a clear perspective of priorities that every Member State and the European Union as a whole should apply, in order to provide a healthy and well-functioning economy. Taking into account the current context of the financial crisis in order to try restoring Europe’s economy, I think we need long-term and sound investments and growth strategies. I think there is urgent action needed in areas like: investments for SMEs – alternative financing resources should be found; competitiveness – the European business environment should be more competitive; tax havens, combating tax fraud – better tax policies that would actually encourage investors – sound public finances; new employment opportunities for our youth generation; education; research and innovation. My belief is that in order to end this crisis situation we need to boost Europe’s competitiveness in a global economy context."@en1
