"Mr President, climate change is the most acute threat to the whole of humanity. It threatens the right to food and the right to water. It is a threat to biodiversity, and it will force more and more people to flee their homes because of rising sea levels. None of this is news, in any sense; the opposite is the case. If anything, the scientific reports are becoming more urgent, more alarming and more shocking. As is the rhetoric of world leaders, when appropriate, and when attending climate change conferences. Big words, half-hearted promises and very few changes. It is the same procedure every year. If it is serious about climate change, the COP 19 Conference should speed up its commitments on meaningful and binding targets for CO reduction; live up to its commitments on financing without taking money from that allocated to official development aid; and publicly invest in research in clean and sustainable energy. To put it very bluntly, the people of this planet must destroy capitalism before capitalism destroys our planet. We need to build a sustainable and democratic socialist society based on the planning of our resources."@en1
