"The EU has not yet had a specific legislative framework for enforcing its rights in the field of trade policy and has instead been following a case-by-case approach. This initiative intends to provide the EU with a single legislative instrument enabling it to defend its interests in a rapid, effective and flexible way, in order to encourage offending countries to put an end to illegal behaviour. The EU must lay down rules governing how the European Union would enforce and defend its rights in the event of unfair or illegal trade actions taken in a third country. I have therefore voted in favour of this dossier."@en1
