"I voted in favour of this report, and therefore in favour of the Draft General Budget of the European Union for 2014. It delivers a structured and clear ‘big picture’ of the EU budget and it takes into consideration all the negotiations and the political agreements made retrospectively, bearing in mind the proposals and opinions of all the EU institutions, and attempting to cover all ‘weaknesses’ of an EU economy struggling with a financial crisis. Voting in favour of the Draft General Budget means supporting all EU member countries in areas like economic and sustainable growth, competitiveness, unemployment (especially youth unemployment), infrastructure projects, research and innovation, and education (directly linked to youth initiatives and youth unemployment). All EU institutions (especially the Council) should understand that, in order to ‘revitalize’ the current economic situation, we – the European Union – should act efficiently and with ‘financial responsibility’. The current budget (as proposed by the EP) reflects a balance between commitments and payments. There should be no repeat of the situation of the EU being unable to meet its legal obligations."@en1
