"Our budget needs to strike a balance between allowing the Members of the House to carry out their work – in their languages – and the need to make savings and show restraint at this time of global economic crisis. The best savings are those which can be implemented without employing additional administrative staff, such as our work towards a paperless Parliament, our buildings policy and the internalisation of the EP security staff.
I welcome the commitment appropriations and the mobilisation of the Flexibility Instrument, bringing fresh money (EUR 50 million) for humanitarian aid and for Heading 1b (EUR 223 million) for the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD), as well as the additional allocation under the Structural Funds for Cyprus. It is extremely important that the EU should accept its responsibility as a global power and therefore as a global provider of humanitarian aid."@en1
