"Andrew, you are a well-known friend of Turkey and you mentioned the problems with Turkey. Would you not agree that the very best thing it could do in terms of confidence-building measures would be to allow the return of Famagusta-Varosha to its rightful inhabitants, who are mainly from the Greek Cypriot community? Not only would it actually create huge numbers of jobs in a Member State – against the backdrop of the problems that it is now facing with the banking crisis – it would also allow the Kasoulides Plan – a plan formulated by our former colleague who is now Foreign Minister of Cyprus – to deliver some sweeteners, i.e. lifting the veto by Cyprus on certain Turkish chapters for negotiation. This would be win-win situation all the way round. Could you try to convince your Turkish friends to agree to that?"@en1
