I was very pleased to support these proposals, and I think the European Union and particularly this Parliament does its best to reflect the needs of local communities – particularly through the Committee of the Regions, which gives local politicians and representatives an opportunity to come here and meet people from other parts of the European Union and discuss matters. I think that is important.
Civil society is also extremely important, and I know that in my own country this has played a huge part in Ireland adopting the Fiscal Treaty, which was highly important as well. So the fact of having focused on local authorities and civil society is very important."@en1
