"Madam President, the health and wellbeing of our constituents are a top priority for all of us as legislators, and I welcome much of what is in this report before Parliament today. Confidence in all aspects of health care, especially in the safety of medical devices and of medical procedures, is paramount to both healthcare professionals and patients.
As technology evolves and further innovation brings yet more progress in the field of medicine, we ought to ensure that such innovation does not come at the expense of patients’ safety. Information is also vital, and I believe that for many patients there is a vacuum of information – whether relating to benefits or risks – regarding the medical devices which are becoming more prevalent in treatment. That is a situation that must be addressed, and I believe this report can go some way to doing this."@en1
