"Mr President, I too was pleased to vote in favour of these proposals and I think also they are timely. It is said that all people are born equal but that is certainly not the case where caste-based discrimination is practiced, unfortunately it has been going on for thousands of years, as Mr Tannock rightly pointed out. Nevertheless, at least we are lucky enough in the Western world where we are lucky to be, that regardless of who your parents are, in theory at least, you have an opportunity through education, through determination, to improve your lot in the world. Unfortunately this is not the case in the caste-based system and certainly we must use every initiative we have to try and change that. I would also think that with the growth in smartphones, the internet and social media, we may be able to influence that situation as well from the ground up."@en1
