"I supported measures to make UK airspace safer by making sure that all pilots flying into British airspace adhere to strict standards already in use by UK pilots. Currently not all pilots have to stick to rules that UK pilots abide by, and I welcome moves to tighten the rules for other pilots flying into UK airports. I believe that the new rules will increase safety, strengthen rest requirements and reduce night-time flights. A clear example of how flight safety standards will be improved is making sure that for long-haul flights with a duration of over 13 hours, there will have to be a minimum of four pilots on board, instead of three, which is currently the case. I support minimum aviation safety rules being put into place across the EU and I am pleased that the legislation does not prevent the UK aviation sector from applying more stringent rules on health and safety for pilots and cabin crew alike."@en1
