"The 2005 Professional Qualifications Directive provides a mechanism for the recognition of professional qualifications, i.e. qualifications needed to pursue a regulated profession. The introduction of a European ‘professional card’, under the revised Directive, will streamline processes for the recognition of qualifications and make life easier for people who want to work in other EU Member States. I particularly welcome the fact that this card will cover internships and professional training carried out in other Member States. I also welcome the adoption of the new alert system, whereby if a professional has been convicted of an offence or suspended from practising in one Member State, all the other Member States will be informed within three days. This should ensure better protection for patients and greater public safety, as well as enabling citizens to have more confidence in professionals."@en1
