"I voted in favour of the Commission proposal which revises the Union legislation on minimum requirements for assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment (environmental impact assessment). The existing Directive has been implemented for nearly 20 years largely unamended. It ensures that public authorities make well informed decisions when giving planning permission to development projects, and is one of the key instruments for environmental integration. The law has needed strengthening for many years. I very much welcome the inclusion of fracking for shale gas within the scope of the legislation but I find it regrettable that pylons are not included, and that will be disappointing for my constituents in many parts of Wales."@en1
