"Madam President, as Chair of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, I would like to pay particular tribute to all my colleagues who worked really hard – as Mrs Vergnaud and the other rapporteurs pointed out – not just on the immediate work to improve and agree this package that the Commission sent us, in a series of very intensive negotiations with the Council, but also in the preparatory work for this. I want to point out to the House, as I have done on other occasions, that one of the characteristics of our work on internal market dossiers recently has been the fact that we are not prepared to just wait for the Commission to send us proposals, but we had been working with them and with the stakeholders, the professions, consumer organisations and particularly with the medical professionals for two years before we received the proposal. I think the quality of work shows, and I pay particular tribute to all of those who have been involved in that long process. Finally, I would also like to pay particular tribute to the personal engagement on this dossier by Michel Barnier as the Commissioner. You heard earlier about his passion for some of the issues here. That always helps us to get a good result. I think we have delivered a good result on this, but I emphasise that we need to be considering not just the short term, but the whole process rather than just the final result today."@en1
