"Mr President, I fundamentally believe in the right to life of the unborn child and I therefore object to sex selection practices and coercive abortion. These awful practices have led to gender imbalance in countries across the world, especially in Asia, where studies have found that sex-selective abortion can lead to increases in human trafficking and violence against women. My colleague has referred to the case in the United Kingdom of the doctors who are currently under investigation for offering abortion based on sex selection. Just today the Director of Public Prosecutions in my country has actually said that it is legal to offer abortion based on these grounds. This is an appalling abuse of fundamental rights. I would also fully support calls for stricter regulation in national legislation to tackle the horrors of abortion being used for financial gain. Finally, I would also support those in the medical profession who find themselves coerced into performing abortions, which is against their conscience."@en1
