"Mr President, I would like to first of all congratulate the S&D rapporteur, Evelyn Regner, because she agreed to quite a number of compromises which made it possible for the PPE Group to entirely support this excellent report. It is an own-initiative report, but it was very necessary in order to fill in the gaps regarding areas of employment law that were not covered by the recast Brussels I Regulation 2012. This report provides an excellent basis for a potential amendment to the Brussels I regulation. The report proposes very practical changes to the Regulation in order to protect tradesmen and those who work in what you might call ‘irregular’ conditions or workplaces. Without these changes, there is a very real danger that the European Union’s rules could negatively affect the rules which protect workers’ rights in the Member States, so again I commend the report to the House."@en1
