"Mr President, this report really came about after the EU granted visa-free travel to some of the Western Balkan countries and some of the countries complained that they could not cope with what they called an influx. I think this shows how sensitive the immigration issue is.
My personal view is that I have no objections to those who want to move to another country, as long as it fits in with the national immigration system and the numbers, but who are also prepared to work hard and contribute to that country. But of course there are problems occurring and it also affects problems of national cohesion.
For that reason, I think it is right that the Commission have looked at that but they have to recognise the concerns that have been raised by citizens of many EU countries, particularly in my own country, for example, when it comes to so-called benefit tourism. So let us make sure that we have a comprehensive review and ensure that those who contribute to those countries are not penalised."@en1
