"I supported this own-initiative report which assesses issues surrounding the current problem of youth unemployment in Europe. I support Youth Guarantee schemes, but we also need to have extra measures in place to deal with the huge problem of youth unemployment. Quality offers of employment, training or education for young people, for example, are vital and making sure that they get the appropriate pay and rights for the work they carry out is a key issue. The report highlights the link between austerity and unemployment. Without more investment to fight youth unemployment, young people will face continued uncertainty and will be unable to progress with their careers. We need to make sure, outside of formal education, that peopleʼs skills are being recognised and developed to their full extent; for example through traineeships, social work and volunteering. There should be no barriers for young people who want to learn, train or work and I believe this report outlines some good ideas which could complement Youth Guarantee schemes across the EU."@en1
