"Firstly, I would like to congratulate my colleague Mr Fox for his great work on this report. I have understood that negotiations with the other groups were tricky, and while Mr Fox would have liked to have achieved more for the Single Market it is clear that many other groups unfortunately tabled protectionist amendments and were hesitant to make much-needed improvements to the status quo. Having followed the CULT opinion, I am pleased to see that the integrity of sport has been seriously considered and that there will be more effective cooperation between stakeholders to combat match-fixing and to safeguard the integrity of sport. Match-fixing is transnational by its nature and cross-border cooperation is absolutely necessary. This report carries a strong message to all involved that we want clean sport and fair gambling services! Finally, it is important to point out the need for Member States to observe the basic EU Treaty Single Market principles when it comes to gambling, to make sure consumers are not forced to turn to illegal websites, while ensuring a high level of protection for users, and specifically for minors and other vulnerable persons."@en1
